I really like 80’s hair metal, so you might wanna give that a shot. They can definitely sing and play their instruments. Here’s some I’d recommend:

Try these bands
Dream Theater- cd “Metropolis pt2. Scenes from a Memory”
Opeth- either Deliverance or Blackwater Park or Ghost Reveries
Amorphis- old school cd “Tales from the Thousand Lakes” or more moderate “Am Universum” or “Elipse”
Opeth and Dream Theater should keep you very busy

slayer have some really good stuff, but they do scream at times.
but i’d urge you to listen to raining blood, its one of the best metal songs ever, ever!!

Slayer, Lamb of God, Burzum, Mayhem, Darkthrone, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth. These bands scream but they’re good

Avenged Sevenfold actually has some very talented musicians, though I have heard that, on their first album, they did some of that screaming stuff. Of course, they haven’t done that much from the stuff I’ve listened to of theirs and they’re very original.
One of the best metal bands of all time is Iron Maiden. If you haven’t heard them yet, and you do hear ‘em soon, you’ll think Metallica is less talented than Taylor Swift…cause, honestly–Metallica’s stuff on the radio all sounds the same (no offense to you for liking them though).
Scorpions’s newest album, HUMANITY HOUR 1 is much more heavy than their older stuff and it doesn’t even sound like hair metal anymore, but it’s an outstanding album–check it out!

Being as you like Metallica, you should probably take everyone up on the Slayer suggestion, as well as checking out other thrash metal giants like Megadeth, Anthrax, Overkill, Testament, and Exodus.
I also get the feeling you would like Pantera, Prong, Suicidal Tendencies, and Biohazard…
